Narragansett 2100 philanthropy committee member, John Hartlery, presented a check
for $300 to URI Surfrider Foundation Club secretary, Gabby Smith, to assist in supplies
used in their Narragansett beach cleanups throughout the year. The URI Surfrider
Foundation Club is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the
country's oceans, waves, and beaches. This is the URI-specific chapter of the national
foundation. They participate in local beach cleanups, local water-based activities such
as surf days, and participate in coastal activism through petitions, letters to Congress,
and attendance at Congressional meetings. They also collaborate with the Rhode Island
state chapter. This is a great organization for students who care about making a
difference and protecting our oceans.
